The Story of Jabbos Bait -N- Tackle
A Little Background
This business was brought to life when Covid hit and Scott and I were faced with me being furloughed from my job March 2020. He told me to take a deep breath and we would come up with a business idea when he got home from work that night, so I waited on him to arrive home (he worked the 2nd shift). So we had a few thoughts but after throwing a few ideas around we made the decision to open a bait and tackle shop since there was such a need in our area for one. As for me, I have always had an avid love for the outdoors and loved fishing and really anything that has to do with the outdoors. Both of our Parents were Nicknamed Jabbo, my grandfather and his father so that was a no brainer for the Name. I always knew he and I would be successful in any endeavor we decided as we keep God as the center of our relationship. So that is my part of the story. As for Scott here is his side of the story.....
(Scott) For me the thoughts of a bait and tackle shop began many years ago. While growing up, my dad, James (Jabbo) Vines had fished the Warrior River all his life. As a kid ( I was the youngest) I would go with him to run his shad net at 4 AM in the morning. We would also go catch crawfish in the creeks, dig nightcrawlers and red worms.Â
My dad didn't buy any of his bait, he would catch his own crawfish, shad, minnows, brim or he dug worms.Â
As a kid, on the weekends we would camp out from Friday until Sunday on the river. Dad has always had a love for fishing trot lines. He would usually have 4-6 trotlines going across the river. We would be out there all day and would have a boat half full of catfish, then the FUN task of cleaning 150-200 lbs of fish began.
